"We are committed to the environment, the people who work at our sites and the needs of society in many ways."

In society, everyone has an important role to play – even companies. Sustained commitment also means that our companies assume their social responsibility. Our companies are committed to the following areas:

Protection of the environment and resources

Training and support for young people, with particular focus on those in difficult situations in life

Teaching, research and development with a focus on technology, economics and natural sciences

Local commitment and support for local projects

Computers for schools and institutions in Hamburg

Every year in October, trainees and employees from the OrgIT at Hauni in Bergedorf join forces to restore discarded computers for a new life in eleven public institutions. The computers were given to schools and refugee centres as well as to the Elbinstitut Hamburg and the Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Centre Hamburg, who were very pleased to receive the donations. Prior to the handover, the team of trainees spent two weeks identifying suitable computers, cleaning them and deleting data. The devices were then complemented with keyboards, monitors and mice and equipped with suitable software.

Wi mook dat! Day of action by Hamburg companies

One example of our corporate commitment to the environment was our participation in the second "Wi mook dat" day of action for Hamburg companies in September 2015. Participants included 30 employees from Hauni. They supported two projects with with plenty of muscle power and team spirit.  With a lot of dedication and DIY skills, the "Wi mook dat!" participants built an entire bicycle repair shop for 350 refugees. The provisional repair shop, on the premises of a former nursing home in Farmsen in which refugees are housed, was first cleared out and then fitted out. For a whole day, the team sawed, drilled and assembled for a good cause.

Our second project involved working together with Friends of the Earth Germany (BUND) to give a meadow with scattered fruit trees a facelift. The Hauni team proved that it had many green thumbs and cleared the meadow of shrubbery, planted a hedge, mowed the grass and repaired irrigation equipment. Moreover, birdhouses were built in order to make the meadow orchard more liveable for tenants such as wild bees and birds.
